Slice Night 3: Slicer of the 7 Dreams

Slice Night 3 is a stylish yet demanding melee platformer that explores the beauty of dreams and the struggle to process repressed emotions — a power fantasy grounded in emotional truth.

The story is a dramatized interpretation of real events from the life of the protagonist, Billy/Miley Dreamwalker, who is canonically genderfluid. Although it’s described as a dream, it functions more as a loose metaphor — not something to be overanalyzed.

The game begins when the protagonist awakens aboard The Slicer of the 7 Dreams, a vessel carrying lost dreamers who sail in search of meaning and self-reflection. It seems they’ve been there before. Along the way, they encounter a masked figure who attempts to halt their journey, setting the story in motion.

Each level is designed like a musical composition: new mechanics are introduced and developed in their first appearance, then revisited and transformed in later stages, creating recurring motifs.

Gameplay emphasizes momentum — players gain more speed from down slicing or wall jumping than from running. After one wall jump, the character automatically clings to the wall, allowing for both deliberate and fast-paced playstyles (the latter being “unintended,” yet clearly designed for). A skill-based critical/supercritical hit system rewards precise timing and movement.

The narrative unfolds primarily through HD comic-style cutscenes, complemented by NPC dialogue that adds flavor and context. Altogether, the game features around 80 full stages, including boss fights across 12 main worlds and 2 hidden ones.
