Dawntide

Riley has lived in Porthwarren his entire life. He drifts from one part-time employment to another at a regular pace. Riley has accepted the ebb and flow of this rhythm as sure as the tide’s ins and outs.

Although he had a nice set of pals growing up, time and circumstance have caused them to drift apart. Joe has settled into his cloistered museum employment, Sal has occupied herself with freelance work, Billy studies north of the county, and Ranzo works on cargo ships overseas. Memories of the group’s better days are loosely moored and run the risk of permanently drifting away, much like the ancient boats that bob in the harbor.

Riley is reminded of someone he clung to like a rock in stormy waters as he strolls down old streets in the town. Someone not in the group. Someone he had cherished. Even still, recollections of him are shown in fading watercolor after a decade apart.

The village gets ready for its annual folk festival as the cool spring air revitalizes the soil. It’s the ideal moment for a reunion because Ranzo is getting a ship to port and Billy is on leave from university. But since this year’s festival is a unique event, it might attract more guests than expected.
