About the Game:
String Zero is an 18+ homosexual, cyberpunk, linear/kinetic furry visual novel that is presently in production.
String Zero, which is set in a different solar system and takes place in a future century, will discuss themes common to the cyberpunk genre, such as transhumanism/transformation, cultural/international politics, and dystopian corporatocracy and class. It will also incorporate aspects of more general science fiction and cyberfantasy.
Overview:
The visual novel centers on Ravy, a young adult human living in a mixed-species world who faces challenges related to his complex connection with his father, Aerran, as well as his potent ability to influence reality. The three, along by their warrior-nun guardian Yuraeli, survive exile in the technologically superior corporatocracy of their home’s adversary, a city-state that is controlled solely by the monolithic Company and its Chairman.
Lios Nu.Ravy’s family encounters bigotry, corporate infighting, and frightening facts instead of the protection they had hoped for. They eventually become entangled in the search for ancient Jazz technology that have both nations on the verge of war. Along with a peculiar group of mercenary “runners,” each with their own unique goals and complex pasts, Ravy embarks on a quest for self-discovery, navigating the perils of the city and his past.

The Characters:
Ravy: A young man caught between worlds: A past full of mystery and story and truth, or a cynical future full of all the power and technology one might need to start a revolution.
Aerran: An opaque, enigma of a man, but equal parts flawed and understanding like any good father. What he refuses to offer in certainty, he struggles to offer in warmth.
Yuraeli: The ever-present sentinel, she is a stony and disciplined religious warrior-in-exile who has protected Ravy and Aerran for many years. But mostly Ravy.
Kavir: Ravy’s best friend and “it’s complicated.” An explorer-adventurer “Ruineer” by day, an acrobatic thief and devil-may-care mercenary charmer by night.
Tarrolf: A powerful and cunning politician who walks a thin line between charismatic champion and dangerous tyrant. Darek’s father.
Darek: A consummate servant of Nu Lios and her people—soldier, detective, and Agent—with all the skepticism and scars to show for it.
Crown: A flashy and foul-mouthed Jazz Singer possessed of a powerful ability to manipulate the mysterious energies of the Jazz—for all the good it’s done.

Hello! I’m Maltotiger, aka Reo and the creator of String Zero. I’ve earned two degrees in writing and literature, and have been doing editorial work since the early 2000s. All which means I’d never claim to be an amazing writer, I just theoretically know what amazing writing looks like.
Still, I have been writing off and on for a long time—mostly short stories, vignettes, fan fiction and so on—though I’ve never finished a long-form project outside of academic papers (largely because I don’t enjoy the process of writing novels). Ironically, String Zero was originally intended to be a novel, for lack of a better medium. But then I discovered visual novels, and my eyes were opened to new possibilities!
This project is important to me because it’s the (hopefully) final iteration of a world and story I’ve been workshopping and worldbuilding since the late 1990s. It’s that sticky idea, that inescapable vision I’ve never been able to shake, and have been dying to express for decades (and have filled up several journals and word docs writing about).
However, working full time as an editor does not provide me with all the funds I will need to give this project the artistic attention it deserves, but that’s where you can help! All funds from this patreon will be used to commission art assets, illustrations, music, and whatever else I feel will help breathe more life into this project.
